Under State of Florida Guidelines, a Licensed Practical Nurse
can instruct Home Health Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants, Personal Care Assistants and Homemaker/Companions
and provide direct hands on skilled nursing assistance for the
administration of medication and treatments for the patient. An
LPN can also monitor the status of patient care and report and
take orders from the Physician in charge of care.
An LPN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Limitations: A Licensed Practical Nurse cannot admninister certain types of intravenous medications or narcotics, nor can they prescribe medications.
